Keywords:
proverbs, culture, perspective, comparative linguistics, cultural values, cultural identity.Abstract
Proverbs are the expressions shaped trough ages as a result of life experiences that people had to deal with through times. Each of them carries a great deal of wisdom, life truths and cultural values which are special for each nation, while teaching people life lessons. This study explores English and Uzbek proverbs as reflections of each culture, diving into their histories to learn how different cultures shape their own ways of expressing themselves wisely and spreading their conclusions among people. Moreover, during the study how much proverbs can reflect people’s choices and their minds about shared universal topics, including honesty, hard work, time management, and social relationships is highlighted as English and Uzbek individuals possess opposed perspectives: individualistic and collective. While many proverbs have functional equivalents with similar meanings, their linguistic structure, imagery, and cultural connotations often differ significantly. The results say that proverbs serve not only as linguistic unit but also as cultural codes, shaping how speakers conceptualize life, morality, and society.
