Abstract

This article explores the cognitive and strategic similarities between simultaneous interpreting (SI) and sign language interpreting (SLI). While differing in modality, both disciplines demand real-time information conveyance across languages, engaging similar cognitive processes such as comprehension, short-term memory management, reformulation, and self-monitoring. The article analyzes strategic parallels including anticipation, prioritization, note-taking, and cultural adaptation. Finally, it discusses shared professional considerations such as ethical conduct, specialized training, and continuous learning. By highlighting these commonalities, the article aims to foster a deeper appreciation for the complex skill sets required in both SI and SLI, promoting cross-disciplinary learning and enhanced accessibility across linguistic and cultural barriers.
