In this article, the scientific-theoretical justification of the development of cognitive-pragmatic competences of students in the teaching of the mother tongue, the types of educational tasks and different approaches, the specific features of the formation of communication skills, the scientific views of linguists, methodologists, pedagogues and psychologists on the development of oral and written speech skills are presented and analyzed.
