Abstract

Vocabulary acquisition is a cornerstone of language proficiency, especially for English learners (ELs) who require both academic and conversational vocabulary to thrive in educational settings. This paper explores evidence-based strategies that support vocabulary development in English learners across age groups and proficiency levels. Drawing on current research in second language acquisition, cognitive psychology, and pedagogy, the study highlights the effectiveness of multimodal instruction, contextualized learning, and active engagement techniques. The goal is to provide educators with practical, research-backed methods for fostering deeper vocabulary knowledge and long-term retention.
