Abstract

This article examines the effects of age on second language acquisition, examining how cognitive development, learning strategies, and the critical period hypothesis affect language learning across different age groups. Young children, who take advantage of the brain's high plasticity, often achieve near-native fluency and pronunciation through natural, intensive learning. As teens and adults struggle with pronunciation, they use advanced cognitive skills and a structured learning environment to understand complex grammatical structures.
