THE CHARACTERISTICS OF PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS
Keywords:
religious rituals, linguistic picture of the world, didactic role, to bite the bullet, customs, etiquette.Abstract
Phraseological units (PUs), by their very nature, reflect the collective memory, values, and social norms of a nation. These expressions go beyond the literal; they are cultural artifacts that encapsulate metaphorical thinking, historical background, national identity, and shared human experience. The imagery used in phraseological units often stems from elements specific to a culture—such as traditions, occupations, religious practices, nature, and folklore. Thus, the study of PUs from a linguocultural perspective not only deepens the understanding of language structure but also provides insight into the cultural psyche of a nation.
