Abstract

Weddings are significant cultural events celebrated across the globe, each with unique traditions and customs that are reflected in their respective languages. By exploring these terms, we can gain insights into the values, beliefs, and social structures of each culture. Language serves as a repository of cultural memory, and wedding terminology is one of the richest linguistic domains for studying the intersection of language and culture. Marriage ceremonies represent not only a social institution but also a symbolic event reflecting religion, values, and collective identity. This article focuses on how English, Uzbek, and Turkish wedding terminologies encode cultural meanings through lexical, metaphorical, and ritualized expressions. While English represents a predominantly secular and Christian-influenced tradition, Uzbek and Turkish contexts reveal Islamic and Turkic cultural foundations, each with its own system of ritual acts and lexical expressions.
