THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE COMMUNICATIVE APPROACH IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING

Abstract

The communicative approach has gained prominence as one of the most effective methodologies in foreign language teaching. This study investigates its impact on advanced-level students at Uzbekistan State World Languages University, focusing on the development of their speaking skills. The research is structured around task-based instruction, incorporating role-plays, problem-solving discussions, and interactive activities to foster communicative competence. The primary objective is to evaluate students’ progress by comparing their performance before and after the implementation of communicative techniques. Results indicate that students show significant improvements in fluency, confidence, and spontaneity in real-life conversations. The study highlights the necessity of interactive and student-centered learning environments, demonstrating how authentic communication enhances language acquisition. By shifting from traditional grammar-based instruction to meaningful communication, students not only improve their speaking abilities but also develop a deeper understanding of the practical use of the target language.
