Abstract

The temporal category in linguistics encompasses the grammatical means by which languages encode time-related distinctions. This study explores the core components of temporality – tense, aspect, and mood (TAM) and their cross-linguistic variations. By analyzing diverse linguistic systems, we highlight structural differences between tense-based and aspect-based languages and discuss the cognitive implications of these distinctions. Our findings emphasize the role of language in shaping temporal perception and contribute to the broader understanding of linguistic relativity in temporal cognition.
