Abstract

This paper explores the phonetic stylistic device of alliteration, focusing on its function and significance in both written and spoken language. Alliteration involves the repetition of initial consonant sounds in a sequence of words, creating a rhythm and musical quality that enhances the aesthetic appeal of language. The paper discusses the different functions of alliteration, such as emphasizing key concepts, enhancing the memorability of phrases, and contributing to the overall flow and rhythm of a text. Through examples from literature, poetry, and advertising, the study demonstrates how alliteration is used to create emphasis, engage the audience, and produce a pleasing auditory effect. It also touches upon the role of alliteration in making languagemore impactful and memorable, as seen in both classical and modern examples.
