Abstract

This paper explores the dynamic relationship between the Joybari Shaykhs and the Emirate of Bukhara. Through a study of primary sources and scholarly literature, it investigates the mutual entanglement of spiritual authority and political power, highlighting how Naqshbandi Sufi leadership, centered in Joybar, became an essential legitimizing partner for the Manghit dynasty. The analysis situates this partnership within the broader context of Central Asian Islamic governance and examines its transformation under Russian colonial influence.
