Abstract

This paper aims to discuss the development of the diary genre, analyzing how a tool of historical reporting turned into a modern form of narrative. Using a close reading of such texts as B. Kairbekov’s “Parts of the Whole” and other works, this research explores the changes in themes, structures, and cultural contexts that have informed diary writing. The results discussed deepen the understanding of the importance of the diary as a separate genre that conveys the subtlety and rich processes within society and people’s identities in the past and the present.
