Abstract

The oral cavity is a unique, complex and stable microbiocenosis, and is a very favorable environment for the growth and maintenance of vital activity of microorganisms. Therefore, the number of microorganisms in the oral cavity, both in the number of species and in the density of microbial contamination, is second only to the large intestine. Microorganisms, more or less often excreted from the body of a healthy person, form its normal microflora. The dominant place of microorganisms living in the oral cavity, both in species diversity and in quantity, is occupied by bacteria [1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 10]. In the process of evolution, complex and contradictory relationships have formed between the human body and the microorganisms of the oral cavity. Microorganisms take part in the metabolism of food products. The leading place in the antimicrobial defense system also belongs to the normal microflora. Having a high affinity for the receptors of the mucous membrane cells, representatives of the normal microflora of the oral cavity prevent its seeding with pathogenic microbes; i.e. they become part of the ecological barrier and block the receptors of epithelial cells from adhesion of pathogenic bacteria to it..
