INITIAL STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT OF SALIVARY AND LACRIMAL GLANDS OF THE WHITE RAT
Keywords:
The study material was 174 13-16-day-old embryos of white Wistar rats. Series of histological sections were made in three mutually perpendicular planes and stained with hematoxylin and eosin according to Mallory, phosphotungsten hematoxylin, cresyl violet according to Fox, mucicarmine, alcian blue, and impregnated with silver nitrate according to Bielschowsky. Three-dimensional reconstructions were made from some of the series using a modified Strasser method (1857).Abstract
This study was undertaken with the aim of clarifying the relationship between the stages of prenatal ontogenesis of the parenchyma, nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue framework of the glandular organs of the head of the white rat - one of the most frequently used in medical and biological animal experiments. In a number of publications devoted to the development of the salivary and lacrimal glands of the white rat [1, 2, 3, 4], the issue of the relationship between the stages of maturation of their components is not given due attention; it is only stated that they develop “in parallel.”
