Abstract

This article explores the foundational concepts of validity in early language assessment theory, focusing on three key types: content validity, construct validity, and criterion-related validity. These validity types serve as essential criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of language tests in accurately measuring intended skills and knowledge. Content validity ensures a comprehensive representation of test material, construct validity verifies alignment with theoretical concepts, and criterion-related validity examines the correlation between test outcomes and other measures, including predictive and concurrent subtypes. By integrating these principles into language teaching, educators can design classroom assessments that are reliable, relevant, and supportive of students' language development. The study emphasizes the importance of aligning assessment practices with validity standards to enhance communicative competence and overall learning outcomes.
