Abstract

Pronunciation and phonetics accuracy play a crucial role in advanced language learning, influencing intelligibility and communicative confidence and various methods are employed for this, depending on the learner’s age. At the university level, phonetics courses are commonly used to achieve these goals. This paper examines effective methods for teaching phonetics and pronunciation to advanced learners, addressing both segmental features and suprasegmental elements. It explores common obstacles including first-language interference, while presenting research-backed techniques such as questionnaires. Through targeted practice and individualized feedback as well as the integration of various instructional techniques, learners can enhance their pronunciation and progress toward near-native proficiency. The discussion emphasize the role of an adaptable and interactive teaching approach in promoting ongoing development, ultimately leading to more natural and effective communication.
