The article examines prepositional relations in noun phrases of the N+N type in the Tajik and English languages. Each language has developed its own structural and grammatical means of linking components within free word combinations. The study analyzes how prepositions function as connecting elements in substantive word groups in both languages. Special attention is paid to the discussion of whether prepositional connection can be regarded as a form of government (control).

The paper argues that in languages without a case system, such as Tajik and English, prepositional constructions cannot be interpreted as governed structures. Instead, prepositions serve as independent linking elements expressing a variety of semantic relations, including locative, possessive, objective, benefactive, and partitive meanings.

Through comparative analysis, the research reveals both isomorphic and allomorphic features in the systems of prepositional connection in Tajik and English. While most Tajik prepositions correspond to certain English ones (for instance, дар – in/on/at, аз – from, барои – for, ба – to, бо – with), the English preposition of has no direct prepositional equivalent in Tajik and is typically expressed through the izafet construction. The findings contribute to the understanding of the syntactic organization of noun phrases and the typological parallels between the two languages.
