Abstract

Sustainability has become an essential directive in modern design and craftsmanship, particularly in the textile and embroidery industries. This research explores eco-friendly materials and practices in embroidery and carpet weaving, with emphasis on biodegradable fibers, organic dyes, and revived traditional techniques such as natural dyeing and handloom weaving. The article assesses the environmental impact of various materials and processes, compares the performance and aesthetic qualities of sustainable alternatives, and investigates how traditional practices contribute to ecological balance. Drawing from recent scholarly literature, case studies, and artisan fieldwork, this paper offers a practical and theoretical framework for integrating sustainability into embroidery. The study positions the artisan not only as a craftsperson but as an environmental innovator, thereby contributing to broader discussions on sustainable design, cultural preservation, and responsible production. These findings affirm that eco-conscious embroidery not only preserves heritage but also paves a scalable path for sustainable textile futures.
