TEACHING RELATIVE CLAUSES TO INTERMEDIATE EFL LEARNERS: A CLASSROOM-BASED INQUIRY

This article presents a classroom-based study of teaching relative clauses to intermediate-level Uzbek university students (CEFR B1–B2) in a General English and IELTS-focused course. The research outlines the learners’ linguistic backgrounds, skills progression, and grammatical preferences, emphasizing the use of both explicit and contextual grammar instruction. Drawing on the works of Leech and Payne, the article compares theoretical frameworks and applies them to practical teaching strategies. The study concludes with a staged pedagogical approach for introducing relative clauses effectively, ensuring grammar learning remains accessible, contextual, and communicative.
