Abstract

Teaching vocabulary in context has emerged as one of the most effective strategies in English language instruction. This method emphasizes the acquisition of new words through meaningful, contextualized usage rather than isolated memorization. Numerous studies confirm that contextual learning enhances retention, comprehension, and practical application of vocabulary. This paper explores the theoretical foundations, pedagogical strategies, and practical implications of teaching vocabulary in context. Drawing on insights from linguistics, cognitive psychology, and language education, the paper outlines key teaching approaches and offers classroom-based examples to illustrate how contextualized vocabulary instruction can be implemented effectively. References to established literature and influential researchers support the claims and arguments presented.
