This paper presents a detailed comparative analysis of verb tense systems in Uzbek and English languages. While English, a Germanic language, exhibits a complex system of tenses that reflect not only the time of the action but also its aspect and modality, Uzbek—a Turkic language—tends to employ simpler tense structures relying on suffixation and contextual cues. The paper investigates these structural and functional differences with extensive examples and highlights challenges faced by learners, especially in translation and second-language acquisition. The findings provide insights for linguists, language teachers, and translators seeking a deeper understanding of temporal expression across typologically distinct languages.
