IMPACT OF GESTATIONAL DIABETES MELLITUS ON MATERNAL AND FETAL RENAL STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION
Keywords:
To better understand how gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) affects the kidneys of both mothers and their babies, we carried out a narrative review of current scientific literature. We focused specifically on studies published between 2015 and 2024 that are indexed in reputable databases like Scopus and PubMed.Abstract
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), defined as glucose intolerance first identified during pregnancy, affects approximately 14% of pregnancies globally. Emerging evidence links GDM not only to immediate perinatal complications but also to renal alterations in both mothers and offspring.
