Abstract

Culture plays a vital role in the process of translation, influencing both the interpretation of the source text and the reproduction of meaning in the target language. This paper explores how cultural elements—such as customs, traditions, idioms, and social norms—impact the choices made by translators. It examines key theoretical perspectives on cultural translation, including the concepts of domestication and foreignization, and discusses practical challenges in rendering culture-specific items. By analyzing examples from literary and audiovisual texts, the study highlights the importance of cultural awareness and sensitivity in achieving accurate and meaningful translations. Ultimately, this paper argues that successful translation is not merely linguistic, but also a cross-cultural act that requires deep understanding of both source and target cultures.
