Abstract

Tourism is an important part of the economy, generating significant income for Italy. The main objective of this study is twofold: firstly, to examine the state of the tourism industry before the COVID-19 pandemic, and secondly, to analyze the impact of the pandemic on the tourism sector. The paper uses a comparative and analytical method to compare key economic indicators before and during the crisis, identify the main problems of the industry and evaluate government support measures. The analysis of statistical data, regulations and travel agency reports helps to objectively assess the scale of the pandemic's impact. The study showed that the pandemic caused a sharp decline in tourist flow, led to the closure of hotels, restaurants and travel companies, and also caused significant damage to the Italian economy. Government support measures had an impact on stabilizing the sector, but the full recovery of tourism will take time and adaptation to the new conditions.
