Abstract

Toponymic units, or place names, are fundamental components of linguistic and cultural landscapes. They encapsulate historical, geographical, and sociocultural narratives, reflecting the interactions between human societies and their environments. This study delves into the linguistic features of English toponyms, with a focus on their morphological, phonological, and semantic characteristics. By examining a range of examples, the thesis illustrates the ways in which toponyms contribute to the rich tapestry of the English language, offering insights into historical linguistics, cultural studies, and language evolution.
