Abstract

Engagements by students beyond the formal academic curriculum are called extracurricular activities (Kakungulu, 2024). Despite the widely recognized benefits, there is limited understanding of how students juggle their academic responsibilities alongside extracurricular engagements, as well as the support provided by universities. This quantitative research investigates the importance, engagement, challenges, and impact of extracurricular activities by examining the perspectives of 25 students enrolled in Uzbek law and English language education programs. According to the main findings, the majority of students value these activities for enhancing their social skills and personal development, although many face difficulties in balancing their academic obligations. The skills that have seen the most improvement are leadership and communication; however, opinions regarding academic support differ considerably. To foster student development, the research highlights the importance of participating in extracurricular activities to enhance the overall student experience and concludes with suggestions on how universities can bolster support, encourage engagement, and align extracurricular opportunities with academic goals.
