Abstract

Intonation plays a crucial role in spoken English, shaping the way emotions are expressed and interpreted. Variations in pitch, rhythm, and stress allow speakers to convey a wide range of emotional states, influencing communication effectiveness. This article explores how intonation contributes to emotional expression, analyzing key intonation patterns and their impact on meaning. Additionally, it discusses the contributions of Patricia Kihlstrom and Klaus Scherer (2007), whose research provides insights into the relationship between pitch variation and emotional perception in speech.
