Abstract

This scientific article analyzes the transition of the global order into a bipolar one during the period of the Cold War, using the six steps of the scientific method: observation, theory, hypothesis, data, analysis, and update. This study employs a qualitative history approach that relies on primary and secondary sources in political science for qualitative data. The author examines existing literature in the fields of comparative politics, international relations theory, and the history of the Cold War to reconstruct the ideological, military, and institutional features of the US-Soviet conflict rivalry. The results suggest that the emergence of bipolarity was a result of deep systemic dysfunctions, ideological conflict, and mutual calculations of strategic interests. This paper also underscores the enduring impacts of Cold War bipolarity on the contemporary international system.
