Abstract

This article explores speaking skills are fundamental in primary education as they lay the foundation for effective communication, language development, and overall academic success. In primary school, developing speaking skills not only aids in literacy and language acquisition but also enhances students’ confidence, social interactions, and cognitive abilities. By engaging in verbal activities such as discussions, storytelling, and presentations, young learners improve their ability to articulate thoughts, express ideas, and engage with others in meaningful ways. The importance of speaking skills extends beyond language proficiency. It fosters critical thinking, as children are encouraged to reason, argue, and explain their ideas clearly. In addition, speaking activities in the classroom promote active listening, turn-taking, and respectful communication, all of which are vital for collaborative learning. Early emphasis on speaking also has long-term benefits, helping students become effective communicators throughout their academic and professional lives.
