THEORETICAL DIFFERENTIATION OF LEXICAL UNIT, LEXEME AND TERM IN MODERN LINGUISTICS

This article explores the conceptual distinctions between the linguistic terms “lexical unit”, “lexeme”, and “term” within the framework of contemporary linguistic theory. While often used interchangeably, these units differ in their structural, functional, and semantic characteristics. Drawing from both classical and modern linguistic thought, the paper aims to clarify the boundaries and relationships among these core concepts. The analysis is grounded in the works of de Saussure, Vinokur, Reformatsky, and modern Uzbek linguists, highlighting the role of these units in language standardization and terminology formation.
