Abstract

The Latin language holds a central role in the medical field due to its precision, universality, and strong historical foundation. As the traditional language of science and medicine, Latin remains the basis of anatomical terminology, pharmaceutical nomenclature, and diagnostic vocabulary. Its continued use enables consistent communication among healthcare professionals from different linguistic backgrounds. Furthermore, understanding Latin enhances the comprehension of complex medical terms and promotes deeper learning for students in medical education. Despite increasing modernization and the dominance of English, Latin continues to maintain its relevance in medical texts, prescriptions, and academic discussions. This article examines the historical development of Latin in medicine, its functional applications in modern practice, and its pedagogical value in medical education. Emphasis is placed on how Latin fosters global standardization and supports accurate interpretation of clinical terms. The study concludes that Latin is not only a linguistic heritage but also a practical tool crucial to the clarity, precision, and integrity of medical communication.
