Abstract

This paper explores the linguistic and structural reductions within William Faulkner's A Rose for Emily, examining how compressed language, narrative omissions, and fragmented chronology emphasize themes of decay, social stagnation, and individual suppression in the American South. Through a close reading of the story’s reductions in dialogue, structure, and perspective, this study reveals how these literary techniques critique oppressive societal norms and underscore the tension between personal agency and social expectations.
