Abstract

Proverbs are short, commonly used sayings that express a well-known truth or piece of wisdom based on common sense or life experience[1]. They are often passed down through generations, carrying the “indelible trace” of a nation’s character and spirit[2]. In every proverb, we can glimpse the worldview and values of the people who coined it. In both Uzbek and English, proverbs serve as repositories of collective wisdom, reflecting each culture’s values, historical context, and way of life[3]. At the same time, many proverbs convey universal lessons — similar sayings appear in different languages due to shared human experiences. This means that while some proverbs highlight unique cultural values, many others bridge cultures with common teachings about life.
